strange but true (maybe) political ranting

one: isn't it ODD that all of the networks reported numbers that total 100% of the votes counted when absentee, overseas, and provisional ballots weren't even counted in places like new mexico, florida, and ohio? also, in ohio, the number of provisional ballots sort of seems a lot higher than the 165,000 quoted by the major media when you add in the african american ballots that apparently have been overlooked. take a look at the new mexico stats while you're at it as well...

how interesting that dick cheney said a few months ago back that elections would be held in iraq even if only 75% of the country was ready. looks like he was using US as an example... also, if we're fighting for democracy in iraq with voting for "all", why the heck isn't the kerry camp standing up to fight for every single vote here to be counted? yeah, they don't want to "divide" the country again like the 2000 race, but we're already divided, and not fighting this particular battle seems like a cop out that will hurt more than it helps down the road. like johnny rotten said "did you ever get the feeling that you've been cheated?" no fun, indeed.

granted, any battle would get nasty, but mostly because the republicans would fight harder to make it more difficult to get every vote tracked. the fact that florida got away with electronic ballots with no means of tracking and that we have NO single way for the country to cast votes that's uniform from state to state coupled with the electoral college imbalances AND a two-party system that's a total joke that no one is willing to stand up and make an effort to change (whew!) makes me sick to my stomach.

as to the "moral" issues that put 43* back in the saddle again: where's the morality of sending men and women off to fight in a war that's been proven to be an illegal action? where's the morality of removing the right to choose from a woman's life? where's the morality of being swayed by corporate interests over the environment that we all need to live in? the problem with too many people who rely on religion to make life decisions is selectivity. they pick out only what passages fits their causes and anything that conflicts with their bias is overlooked. a lot of the folks who voted for four more years share the same lack of world view as our fearless leader. how many of these people have traveled outside of this country and have an honest opinion of other cultures NOT based on what they see on TV? it's easy to see why upwards of 50% still think iraq had something to do with 9/11- they simply can't distinguish between the two areas and its people and the conservatives have done little to nothing to educate them.

43* appeals to them because his down-home drawl and steadfast attitude reflects their own moral outlook. unfortunately, many of these folks believe as he does, that their version of god states that some sort of massive apocalypse is in store for the planet and there's nothing we can do to stop it. obviously, the separation of church and state has nothing but a symbolic meaning to these folks. it's so taboo to even discuss religion as a political issue in the media these days because no one wants to be seen as "against" christianity. the thing is, you NEED to operate with a level of acceptance of all religious thought in today's world. what we have in this country is still "tolerance", as in 'yeah, we'll "tolerate" your heathen buddhism/hinduism/whatever, but we definitely won't "accept" it. sort of like homosexuality in this country. two bad jokes: imagine being gay, republican, and believing in god- talk about vote fodder... your party doesn't want you to have any civil rights if you vote for them; and no matter what you do in life, you're going straight...to hell. what's worse than pure, blind faith? pure, blind faith and fear magnified by a few million votes.

43* hasn't made a decision for himself in years. nearly every aspect of his political life has been controlled and molded by others so that he's a radio controlled puppet that relies on memorization of simple sound bites and snappy truisms that ring hollow in real life situations. "bring it on" and "mission accomplished" sound and look great to the john wayne crowd, but the real-life western taking place in iraq is anything but tumbleweeds and bad guys in black hats. this isn't the 1800's people. there should be a minimum education requirement to run a country, period. with no world view and no experience in international affairs (sure, he's traveled, but he's just a well-guarded tourist flying first class), he's the world leader citizens of the world stare at in disbelief. but his base adores him because he's just a corny-dog eatin' guy they'd love to have a beer with. remember, this is a man with a C average that couldn't describe tribal sovereignty to a bunch of college students a few months ago.

here are two more jokes that are not very funny (probably because they ring true): Q: what's more frightening than a subway car evangelist? one in the white house with command of the military. Q: what does the president do all day? A: whatever his "advisers" tell him to. four more years? more like four more beers. i'm off to get roaring drunk now, and probably every day for this next term.
